ERP implementation
ERP implementation is the work of moving a business onto an ERP: agreeing how each process should run, configuring the system to match, migrating the data, training the people who will use it, and staying until it actually runs the operation.

The phases
Discovery establishes how the business actually works today, as opposed to how the org chart says it does. Design settles the operating model — the decisions that are business decisions, taken with the business. Configuration builds it. Migration moves the data, which is nearly always the step that is underestimated. Training and go-live hand it over.
Where implementations fail
Almost never in configuration. They fail when process variants were never resolved, when data was migrated dirty because cleaning it looked like a distraction, or when the project ended at go-live — the moment the organisation starts generating real questions.
What "done" should mean
Not that the system is live. That the operation runs on it without the implementer in the room.

Questions people ask
It depends on how many processes move at once, not on company size. Phasing by process — stabilising one before starting the next — takes longer on paper and fails less often.
Data migration. Every business discovers its records are messier than assumed, and the cleanup is business work that cannot be delegated to the implementer.
