Intelligent document processing
Intelligent document processing is using AI to read business documents — invoices, contracts, delivery notes, forms — and turn them into structured fields a system can act on, without a person retyping them.

Where it pays
Anywhere a document arrives and someone types its contents into a system. The saving is not only the typing: it is the delay between arrival and the record existing, and the errors that come with transcription.
Why it is not solved by OCR alone
OCR turns an image into text. It does not know which number is the total, which date is the due date, or that this invoice references a purchase order. The useful part is the extraction and the judgement about what each value means.
The part that must not be skipped
Confidence and escalation. A document the system is unsure about must go to a person, visibly, rather than being guessed at. A system with no low-confidence path is one that will silently post a wrong number eventually.
Questions people ask
Accuracy is per document type and worth measuring on your own documents, not quoted from a vendor benchmark. The number that matters is how often it is confidently wrong, which is a different measure.
Usually, with quality affecting the result. It is worth testing on your worst realistic input — a creased fax, a phone photo — rather than on clean examples.
