Go-live

Go-live is the day a business starts running on a new system for real — the point at which the old system stops being the record and the new one starts.

It is a beginning, not an end

The most expensive assumption in any implementation is that go-live is the finish line. It is the moment the organisation starts asking real questions, and the weeks after it are when a system either becomes how work is done or quietly gets worked around.

Big bang or phased

Everything at once is faster and riskier. Phasing by process is slower on paper and fails less often, because a problem in one area does not stop the business. Which is right depends on how much of the operation can tolerate being wrong for a week.

Questions people ask

Data migrated and checked by the people who use it, not just by the implementer. Someone named for each process who can answer questions. And an agreed answer to what happens if it goes badly.

As briefly as you can bear. Parallel running feels safe and quietly doubles the work, which is how it becomes permanent.
